Park City’s Eaglet Chair Suspended for 2021-22
Park City’s Eaglet triple chair will lay dormant for the season, as evidenced by its display on the new trail map. The short lift was first installed in 1995 for the purpose of serving some 2002 Winter Olympic racing events, but it was not actually included on trail maps until 2010. In recent years, the chair has been repurposed to serve a series of terrain parks.
Along with the Eagle triple chair just below it, the Eaglet chair is on track to be replaced for the 2022-23 season with a six-pack. This new detachable lift will provide a third high-speed lift route from the Park City base.
Our Take
Since it appeared on the trail map more than a decade ago, the Eaglet triple chair has historically provided direct lift service to some of Park City’s medium freestyle terrain—and before that, a mini pipe. However, all the terrain accessible by Eaglet is also accessible by the King Con high-speed six-pack. This lift rarely operated when it was technically open—and has actually sat dormant in previous seasons as well—and we believe its removal will have little practical implication for the resort this season.
Perhaps the biggest victim of Eaglet’s downfall is the freestyle terrain in its vicinity. Based on the newest trail map, it seems that the Pick Axe terrain park, which has lived next to the lift the past few years, will not return this winter either. It is possible this decision will be reversed—back in 2015, Park City printed an initial trail map without a terrain park on this trail before issuing an updated version showing the Neff Land minipipe—but given how late in the year it is, we view this as extremely unlikely.
The planned Eagle/Eaglet high-speed replacement means there is very little chance the Eaglet lift will run again. However, we’re holding out hope the terrain park will return. We look forward to returning to Park City next winter to assess the new setup for ourselves.
