PEAKHOUSE NEW ZEALAND
CLUB FIELD 2027
We’re heading to New Zealand to visit one of the world’s only remaining vestiges of pure, unadulterated skiing and riding.
If something truly one-of-a-kind has been on your bucket list, this is your chance.
What are the New Zealand Club Fields?
New Zealand’s club fields are community-run ski areas with primitive lifts and surprisingly serious alpine terrain. They are often bucket-list destinations for skiers and riders around the world. Check out our recent club field experience here.

New Zealand’s club fields are an adventure in almost every way, including getting there.
Day 1: Arrive in New Zealand (September 10th)
Arrival: Guests arrive at the Christchurch airport during the day. (It is highly suggested that you arrive a day or two early to give yourself a little time to recover from the jetlag. Flights to New Zealand from North America and Europe can take upwards of 24 hours.)
Welcome Dinner & Drinks: After picking up rental cars, the group will meet at the lodging for dinner, intros, and a gear check.
Day 2: Temple Basin (September 11th)
Breakfast: Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at the lodge before hitting the slopes.
Skiing/Riding: The first ski day is planned for Temple Basin in Arthur’s Pass.
Warm-Up Hike: The group will drive from Christchurch to the Temple Basin car park, then hike up to the ski area (yes, there are no ski lifts directly at the parking lot).
Temple Basin is a good first stop because it introduces the group to the club-field format right away. The access is more involved than a normal resort day, and the terrain is natural and alpine. We will keep the ski plan flexible based on weather, coverage, and how quickly the group gets through the hike and setup.
The day will likely include rope-tow orientation, inbounds laps, and possibly short hike-to terrain if conditions allow. At the end of the ski day, the group hikes back down to the cars for the next part of the trip.
Après & Dinner: Relax at the lodge and enjoy a well-deserved dinner.
Day 3: Craigieburn Valley (September 12th)
Breakfast: Another big breakfast to prep for an epic day.
Skiing/Riding: The first full Craigieburn Range day is planned for Craigieburn Valley.
Craigieburn is one of the most well-known expert club fields in New Zealand. It is a rope-tow area with natural terrain and very little of the infrastructure people associate with larger commercial resorts. For this group, the main goal is to get comfortable with the tows and build into the steeper terrain as the day goes on.
The plan is to ski Craigieburn as a normal day trip. The cars stay at Craigieburn, and any hike-to or sidecountry option will be chosen with a return to the field in mind.
Dinner: Group dinner near Methven to check out town!
Get ready to earn your turns to shred some serious Southern Hemisphere pow.
Day 4: Broken River (September 13th)
Breakfast: Early breakfast before hitting the road.
Skiing/Riding: Broken River offers a different club-field experience from Craigieburn, with strong off-piste terrain and a more contained setup. The day can be adjusted based on weather and visibility.
If Allan’s Basin is available and conditions are safe, that will be the main expert objective. If not, the group can focus on the main ski area and keep the day more straightforward.
As with every ski day on this itinerary, the group starts and ends at the same field. However, ambitious guests can try to hike the connection to Craigieburn or Cheeseman and back.
Dinner: Ride until last nutcracker tow, then head back to the accommodations to unwind.
Day 5: Mount Cheeseman (September 14th)
Breakfast: Another morning feast to fuel up.
Skiing/Riding: Mount Cheeseman is the most practical midweek field on the itinerary. It has a more approachable lift setup than some of the rope-tow fields, which makes it useful after a few harder days.
For experts, the main appeal is the sidecountry potential, especially if conditions line up for Tarn Basin. Guests who want a lower-output day can ski the lift-served terrain.
Après and Dinner at the Lodge: Another night at the chalet for a relaxed evening.
Day 6: Mount Olympus (September 15th)
Breakfast: Very early morning meal - we may do breakfast bars and get on the road quickly.
Skiing/Riding: Mount Olympus is more remote than the other Craigieburn Range fields, so the day will start early. If conditions are good and the group is moving well, there will be solid hike-to or sidecountry options that return to the ski area. After a relaxed day 5, Mount Olympus will provide one of the best combinations of technicality and untouched powder of all the club fields.
Dinner and Après: Head to a local bar in Methven for a relaxed evening with new friends.
You’ll feel on top of the world with all you’ll achieve on this trip.
Day 7: Flex Day (September 16th)
Breakfast: A final full ski day starts with another hearty breakfast.
Skiing/Riding: The final full ski day will return to the group’s favorite club field from earlier in the trip. Or if weather disrupted the earlier itinerary, this is the backup day to re-circle. If the club fields are not viable due to weather, the group can head to Porters or Mount Hutt as backup options.
Farewell Dinner: Celebrate an epic trip with a final group dinner in Christchurch! If you’re in New Zealand, you may as well check out a city too.
Day 8 (Non-Addendum): Departure from Christchurch (September 17th)
Breakfast & Check-out: Enjoy a final breakfast before heading to Christchurch Airport (CHC) for departure. We recommend booking flights for after 12:00pm.
Need a little more time in New Zealand? Join us for an optional addendum, hitting 1-2 other New Zealand ski resorts before heading home!
Post-Trip Addendum: Commercial Ski Fields (September 17th–20th)
We’ll be heading to the commercial fields for a few days of cool down skiing/riding after the main trip is over. We’ll have this time to circle back to any club fields that were inaccessible due to weather during the main trip.
